Frequently Asked Questions

How Do Classes Work?

Classes feature carefully selected music matched with satisfying martial-arts inspired choreography and body weight exercises (e.g. push-ups, squats, lunges, squat jumps and burpees). The sequences and actions encourage a sense of unity, achievement and joint purpose.

All moves are deliberately non-contact but the classes offer kids a chance to safely express some attitude and actively release their emotions.

No one will be told off for “being too loud” as we positively encourage the use of voice in class.

Classes begin with circle-time. Here, we spend a few minutes reminding ourselves of the Wellfit VALUES and set the right tone for the session. The class then follows the rough format below:

  • Upper body warm up track

  • Lower body warm up track

  • Master class track (here we focus on mastering a particular technique)

  • Main work out

  • Guided cool down

  • Stretch out (here we build healthy habits and learn the major muscle groups)

  • Closing game

What are the Wellfit VALUES?

V

is for Voice

Wellfit believe in the power of voice. Use yours to express yourself, release emotion and add some extra “oomph” to your moves. Whether it’s singing along to the music, whooping as we raise the tempo or letting out a decisive battle cry as we finish off a killer combination it’s all welcome and actively encouraged here.

A

is for Attitude

Wellfit is all about positive mental attitude and taking responsibility for yourself. It’s strictly non-contact and deliberately non-competitive. The only person you’ll take on in class is yourself, but you will be taught a range of powerful combat moves from across the martial arts. Whether it’s punches, kicks, elbows or knees these moves offer a great way to let off steam, have fun and develop technical mastery you can feel proud of.

L

is for Leadership

At Wellfit we believe healthy leadership of others starts with effective leadership of self. Wellfit’s mission is to empower young people with healthy habits for life. In class we lay strong foundations that can support a healthy practice of wellness and fitness for life.

U

is for Unity

If you’re a member of Wellfit you’re part of a community. We pride ourselves on inclusivity and our strong values and identity. We don’t care who you are or where you are on your fitness journey. You are welcome, you belong and everything we do, we do together.

E

is for Energy

Wellfit classes have high and infectious energy. Get swept up in the pounding beats and satisfying rhythms of the Wellfit soundtrack during the combat tracks before cruising into land at a pleasant state of calm during the guided mindful  down.

S

is for Skills

As well as technical competency, Wellfit classes teach kids helpful life skills.

  • Use movement to work through feelings

  • Develop a healthy practice of recognising, expressing and managing emotions

  • Build physical and mental resilience

  • Gain self-reliance and self-confidence
