The origin of Wellfit Kids
Julia founded Wellfit Kids as a passion project at the end of 2025. Classes started in Spring 2026.
Her own martial arts–inspired fitness training across 25+ years, convinced Julia of the many physical and mental benefits this sort of exercise could bring.
She instinctively wanted to share these benefits with others, including her own children, but never acted on it.
Then, towards the end of 2025, three things happened:

A close friend died suddenly, reminding Julia that life was short and prompting her to act on her ambitions

She gained insights working as a school governor that chimed with her own experience as a parent, i.e. kids could struggle to regulate their behaviour and spent an increasing amount of time immersed in the digital world

Julia had a serendipitous meeting with the manager of a business start-up fund
The Wellfit Kids class concept emerged quite naturally.
It began with Julia noticing her son (10) and daughter (7) took interest in the type of music and moves Julia used in her own workouts. This combined with spotting a gap in the market and Julia's underlying desire to share the various benefits she felt her workouts gave her.
Julia was motivated by the thought that a new afterschool club could provide a regular time each week for her own kids and others to:

Let off steam and be physically active (away from screen-based entertainment)

Practice regulating their emotions

Have fun and move to music with friends

Become proficient in some fun martial arts moves

Experience a period of deep relaxation
Crucially, the concept was straightforward enough to quickly work up into a business model that could be pitched to take advantage of the soon-to-be expiring business start-up grant.
Fast forward past:

A successful grant award and equipment purchase

Securing new full-time employment that would accommodate the regular commitment

The completion of various business and brand development activities
And soon, Wellfit Kids was born.
